GWH here.and I was wondering if I could upgrade the cpu from i3 to i7, just to play the latest games. It is because I just recently got an old computer tower from five years ago, refurbished just recently because the old computer which I used before got broke at the time (but It was recently fixed), and the cpu that was inside is an i3. Games nowadays require i5-i7 CPUs, so I was wondering that I could upgrade the motherboard CPU. The motherboard that the desktop unit uses is an ASUS P8H61-M LX3 Plus and upgrading CPU requires bios version 2.01.

The best cpu you could try an get for your motherboard is an Intel core i7 3770K. To "play" the "latest" games, you'd need to overclock it the best you can, but I don't think your motherboard can handle it. But more importantly, you need a decent gpu. What graphics card do you have and what is your target resolution and quality?

You should really just save for a budget build then upgrade over time if your system is that old.
The most important thing here is that you're motherboard will stay compatible from budget to whatever you want it to become
