No, the kernel did not change and neither did anything Luma patches, therefore 0 patches were broken by this update

I was scared that updating my cfw 3ds would stuck my console, so if you guys say is ok to update I'll do it

Now I wonder if Nintendo put a time bomb in their update......so like it won't do anything for 5 or 6 months (get a lot of CFW Updates). Then......BOOM!!! Your socks get knocked off. LOL

*I just did a Soundhax a few hours ago to my old 3Ds that was laying around on 9.8.0-25U and the procedure allowed for an update to 11.9.0-42U. I was scared to do the "update" like mentioned - but trusted the source. Didn't know anything about the do's and don't on the 3Ds. Now on the long road to see what I can do with it.
