Homebrew Updating game software without firmware update?

I need to update my copy of Pokemon Y to be able to use the Hoopa event giveaway but you can't perform a game update without being at the most recent firmware. Is it possible to perform game updates though the new 2.5 exploit?

Right thanks, I was waiting for more homebrew to stabilize to the 2.5 hax but this is the kick up the but to get me to upgrade sooner!
