Seams like some heavy porting will happen. Casual time?

Nintendo has partnered with Unity, the house of Slender, a lot of casual stuff and other games that a don't actually know.
The thing is, these games are played by a lot of people, and the convenience of having them together with your Wii U may call some more users.
Unity's CEO already said that the Wii U is not a difficult hardware to work with, so maybe some exclusive Wii U games can appear in the future?

    Original text from Engadget:

Do you think this partnerships is healthy or poisonous to the Wii U's early life ?

How can you even interpret this news as negative? Support for more engines is always a good thing.

Its a question to start the Topic's comments ...not a interpretation of mine (my opinion about it was not given there)

Only something for people to opine about.

It's just a game engine, I find it hard to believe that support for one more game engine would have any kind of negative effect whatsoever.

Well, it's real easy to put them together as Wii Unity, so they have that going for them.

It would probably be for the best if they don't port Slender over to the console. You want to attract a new audience, not bore them to tears.

First angry birds re-released as an over-priced "retail" game now this? Here comes the flood of casual games marked up cause of Nintendo's greed.

Woah unity with wii sounds awesome. Sure a flood of casual games will come, but its not like they stop releasing other type of games because i highly doubt big game companies stops producing whatever their still producing just to start and make some casual games with unity lol. I really hope they make it open source or something so the community can develop their own game. That would be awesome.

Because it makes it easier to put massive amounts of shovelware on the platform like the Wii had.

If a platform is successful, it's going to get shovelware. The addition of an engine won't facilitate more of it.

I swear, on first glance, I saw this as "heavy petting" and "sexy time". :creep:

    What's happening to me?

ONTOPIC: How about a multiplayer Slender? Say, four players, all being chased by Slenderman. The anticipation and eventual getting-caught-by-Slenderman kicks the anxiety and scare factor up by a few notches for the players remaining, building up to a jittery mess for the last man standing.

Wait, what? How could the addition of an engine not mean more of a type of game?
There's a reason why unity is used for moblies so often: it's built around mobile hardware, it runs with just 300 MB (in fact I think it can use even less if you cut certain features) and it features things other engines on the platform lack. On a console it's a whole new game.. tons more competition with dramatically higher capability. What could one expect more companies to release shovelware on, an engine like Unreal, or a cheap engine that's known for its mobile games?

Just because shit games are made on the engine doesn't mean it's a shit engine.

There's a lot of crap made on Unreal Engine but people love to see Unreal Engine on their consoles.

You say that Zantigo but the amount of dross I see stuck on top of the unreal engine (see many film cash in games) and the amount of dross I see elsewhere does not make it as clear cut as it might be. Equally I think I am of the opinion that complaining about shovelware is akin to complaining about someone wasting space on the internet- you can just look past it.

Anyway I am all for rapid development and similar such options and if this allows the Wii U to rock up with a serious collection of card games, puzzle games, electronic versions of board games and other staples the Wii U can "emulate" in terms of features I am definitely all for it- I would argue this might be more akin to Microsoft's XNA and few would argue it alone was a negative in an of itself (Microsoft's treatment of the community, their long terms views of the API/framework and similar such things are a different matter).

Unity coming doesn't necessarily mean more shovelware. It's a game engine, not a shovelware creator. Shovelware will come regardless of engine support.

And there is no one or the other situation. You're not forced to use either Unreal Engine or Unity Engine.

I would like to say that if your saying something to me please quote or mention :P I dont really look on topics after I post.

I never said Unity was shit (im assuming its directed at me since your talking about Unreal >_>), I just mean its likely to accumulate ports of mobile games.

Well, yeah any engine is going to have a bunch of crap on it sooner or later. Its like saying wether someone with an iPhone will accumulate more crap apps on thier mobile then someone with a Android. But im saying based on Unitiy's overall design and purpose, its much more likely to get things like ports of mobile games and all. And I never said anything about shovelware :P

Also, in a side note, I dont think all Mobile games are shovelware. Like Age of Zombies or Shadowgun, in fact some of my personal favorites are mobile games made on Unity.
