Under Night In-Birth is a fighting game by those of the cult classic Melty Blood series,
with it recently being updated as UNI2.

What you may not know is that it's very, very moddable. Enter:

FLS Flora is a mod "pack" gently put together after seeing that:
  1. This game isn't getting the most traction
  2. Me and a few others have been doing some changes enough to make it a collective
  3. The ability to add in characters is nearly as unlimited as the likes of M.U.G.E.N., in most ways, and we want to show that off
While the pack is by no means "complete" yet or fully polished, the bottom line is that we've added five somewhat-functional characters, whether they are ports from other games or manually-inserted. Alongside that, some stages from MBTL and have been given a nighttime feel or fit in with Under Night's setting. Best of all, these characters indeed work online. Currently, we have Riesbyfe (MBAA), Ingrid (SF), "FLS Ryu" (SF), Ako (DFCI), Edmond Dantes (MBTL) and more to come.

There are a few other little features sprinkled in here and there, such as a hitbox viewer, music, a fresh coat of paint for the UI, and some other eye candies. Not only that, but the project is visible on GitHub and has all of our changes tracked, done in the hopes that anyone can try to view how things work and end up having more individuals who might be curious to mod UNI2 for themselves. If you want to know a bit more or peek into the files first, this link is your friend.

Installation

Download the pack, navigate to the game's install directory, and unzip the contents inside of the fls-flora-game folder in there, overwriting any contents. Load the game in English, and you're done!
When you don't want it anymore, remove the extra files and use Steam's Verify Integrity function. That's it!

If you are indeed a UNIB fan and are technically inclined to learn more, this other repo has some starter information for you to read, with some that can be skipped thanks to the modpack. No hacking knowledge or programming experience is required - anyone who has the ability to use text editors, batch files and graphical tools can do a majority of what's possible. The only real gatekeep is attention and time. This game is seemingly not talked about too much across the internet, so I believe the clever minds passing by GBAtemp may be more inclined and appreciative of such a mod.

I need to update this thread a little and add more information and clean it up, but I would be happy to answer any questions or use this thread as a proper modding thread for this game. I really do mean it when I say this game has many possibilities and much potential for tinkerers to step up to the plate and do some crazy things you'd ususally see in MUGEN. The engine is there and ready to be cracked open, so we hope you can enjoy FLS Flora in its current state as a showcase of what modding can bring to the table. Clips, suggestions, and questions are welcome.

damn this is actually an insane mod and i'd never expect to find it here of all places xD any chance xrd2 baiken could ever be ported in?

Possible? Yeah, I had word a long while back that someone tried to add another 3D character into UNIB, but the characters are not 3D. So you'd really just be putting together a bunch of PNGs and just hope they all share the same palette which is probably a chore. It would be easier to recreate her from XX or a MUGEN version.

Oh yeah, the differences in models might be a pretty painful hurdle for that, I hadn't considered that before my original comment xD but it's really cool to see that modding in this game is indeed possible, hopefully more people will pick that up eventually (I'm aware that odds are pretty low since the game didn't get as much traction like you mentioned, but one can dream). Props for the mod, I'm hyped to try it this weekend once I have some time!
