Thanks Hermes!!!!!

this is a big step IMHO as ppl with fooked DVD drives can still play their backups without the need for a USB drive

I'm pretty interested in the external dvd drive function, since my dvd drive died and I don't really want to open my wii up. Could anyone tell me how the compatibility is? I don't have one to test and I was thinking of going out and buying one so I could use this..

Edit: I read the original topic, but my spanish is a bit rusty. From what I read, things like alt. dols are still required, right? Just wanna check to make sure I understood Hermes post correctly.

uLoader has the feature of loading alt dols from images or from discs directly....

An external DVD drive can be connected to the Wii USB port like an USB-HDD... and you can load DVDR discs from them... but not originals.

Do you think you could put in a request to Hermes then, that original wii games could be read from external dvd drive? Or is this just not possible?

I can read spanish but I struggle with writing it..

and could you explain to me how a game like metroid prime trilogy would work from an external dvd drive? would there be any way for it to work totally smoothly without alt dols?

Computer driver simply can't read Wii discs.

What about the LG GDR8164B and the others... They can read the Wii discs with Rawdump.

how do you copy an already burned backup??

You can use any drive to copy an already burned backup.

exactly if you read the OP it say's
NEW 3.5
- Support for DVD USB Devices: It can run only DVD backups from .iso (original don't work because DVD drivers don´t support the Wii format). Remember you must insert a DVD to work at start the program.

and the nice thing about the external dvd drive is that it runs at least 6x speed so 007 quantum of solace is really running smoothly and it is also a great addition for black wii's and white wii's with the special drive inside.

way the go Hermes Team

thanks guys for telling me. I feel really dumb now - I read the original post but I must have totally missed that x_x

but could anyone tell me how metroid trilogy would work? I'm primarily a usb loader, so I'm not totally clear. I thought there was a way to get it working from disc using neogamma+cioscorp together. would I be able to do something like that using this external dvd?

also, if anyone has tried this out, could they recommend a dvd drive that works for them and is cheap?

I was taking about drives in general and not two special drives. And I guess they are not USB-drives, right? So, how did you help anyone here with your post?
@alex: mpt will still need the alt dol as its still running under cios.
