Uhg, stupid PSP

I don't know what's wrong with it. When the AC adaptor is unplugged, my PSP randomly turns off or says low battery despite it having a full charge. Also, when I hit the back part of where the battery is, the entire system turns off.

Would you say this is the fault of the battery or the PSP itself? I ask because I'm debating of buying a battery for my PSP but if it's a hardware problem then I just wasted my money :S

It's kind of annoying now since I can't really use it as a portable system anymore since it has to remain plugged in to be usable.

Doesn't the battery come with a warranty? Even if it doesn't, I'd say buying a new battery is a good idea. I'm no expert, but what you're describing sound like a faulty battery, and hey: even if it's the PSP that's broken, you will be one step closer to fixing the problem.

I'm guessing your friends don't have a battery for a psp that would work or if they do try that before buying it.
The battery is a consumable and isn't covered by the warranty but a battery isn't that expensive and getting it repaired will take a while usually.

Don't buy a cheap Dealextreme battery if you do get another one. You won't be much better off than you are now. I recommend this sucker. An official battery for $20 that has more battery life than the normal battery in either a fat or a slim is pretty neat stuff.

Definitely the battery though. It sounds like the battery is tapped or faulty. Knocking it and having it shut off means your battery is likely enlarged in which case means that it may be faulty anyways. The battery in my PSP isn't super friendly to being knocked on the back. On the plus side, when the SNES emulator freezes, I can just lightly knock the back of the PSP to get shut it off completely. It sucks when the battery door isn't sitting right though (something else to check for in the case of an enlarged battery), and pressing a button can create enough pressure on the battery to disconnect it and shut off the PSP.

It's most likely the battery, but...

it's ALSO worth checking your battery cover. See if it is broken; there are two "tabs" that lock in into place when it's shut, and I have seen several where they only had your issues when they had the broken tabs (because it doesn't completely press the PSP battery contacts into their slot at the top).
