I have two dongles and both work perfectly. When you plug in your dongle to switch it should go from yellowish color to bright green in about 5 seconds. Both of my dongles do this and I've used them at least 100 times in the last 3 months. I just finished using it now after not touching it for over a week and it booted up my switch with no problems and the light turned bright green in 5 seconds. If yours doesn't behave like this it's faulty and you should get a replacement. My issue is sometimes I have to plug it into a PC for a second to get a light. It will NEVER light up in the console. Anyone else have that issue?
thanks for the link. I'm in the market for a dashcam and now I will look for one with capacitors.if it had a battery some people would still have problems with that not charging.

edit:unless there's an issue with your switches usb power. One of my switches came with a manufacture defect related to the sd card and I had to send it to nintendo for repair. The sd issue is not uncommon and given the fact that the switch is so cheaply made I don't doubt that it suffers from many other issues.

seems like it. however I would still ask for a replacement but that's just me. Maybe because I have two dongles so I would still have one to use while the other gets replaced.Yeah, so I have booted the switch at least 100 times but I will NEVER ever ever get a light on the dongle when plugged into the switch. When I plug it into a PC, it will light blue but turn off when its unplugged. I think maybe my dongle works perfectly but maybe the LED's were DOA perhaps?
Do you know if there is any place that ships to the US that only sells the dongles without the license since I already have one?seems like it. however I would still ask for a replacement but that's just me. you can buy the SX-Gear which is the dongle alone and it comes in a nice red color.Do you know if there is any place that ships to the US that only sells the dongles without the license since I already have one?

i don't know if they sell them cheaper in other websites but considering that the pro is only 10 dollars more and you might just want to get another pro in case you get another switch in the future. it's up to you.
it will work yes. I'm not sure if you need to put a different file on sd card to run sx-os since this dongle can launch any payload. Check out some videos on youtube on it.Awesome thanks for the link! And this dongle will work with my existing license right? In other words, I can use everything I have right now (jig and files on the SD card) and this dongle will just function just like the old one right?
Thank for the great info!

Battery and Capacitance , I think the different is that one charge full Battery can be used 500 hundreds time to inject the payload , with capacitance you need charge 500 times. I do not think the capacitance is a good choice to charge so many times, because its cheaper.
Makes sense. Does anyone know if I just buy the SX gear dongle, will it work? Does the payload come included?

Ok so I am seeing that you need a DIFFERENT boot.dat for the sx gear but I already have a pro and a license. Is there no way I can just use my existing license and keep the dongle how it is?
Thanks for any help
(This is in the interest of having a backup dongle)
I bought the SX Gear to use it with my already existing SX OS license (got tired of using my Mac to send the payload). It works absolutely fine with the normal SX OS boot.dat.
The additional Gear boot.dat is only relevant if you don’t want to launch SX OS, but any other payload.bin file from the SD card. It’s kind of a chainloader boot.dat.
IMO you don’t really need that since the original SX OS boot.dat can even launch several payloads from the SD card by using the boot menu (hold + when sending the payload).
Also as it turns out super capacitors are much more longer lasting than batteries and more reliable in this application. The opposite of what an uninformed person posted earlier.Perfect info! Thank you very much!! Appreciated!
There's no difference between the red or black dongle other than color. How do you figure led lights function "much better"? I have two dongles and they both work as intended. If your led's are not working properly on your pro dongle is because it's defective.Ok UPDATE:
The SX gear does seem to be higher quality than the base one. Its red and the LED lights function MUCH better. Best part - WORKS PERFECTLY with existing licenses. So if you have an SX pro and want to just have a spare dongle or update the dongle, its literally plug and play. It will work just like the old one did and boot the SX OS with existing memory cards.
Well the red dongle is slightly larger and the LED's are brighter so there is for sure some sort of hardware difference. There's no difference between the red or black dongle other than color.
