Two Taiko games are headed west

IMG_0067.JPG

Earlier this month, we saw an Australian Ratings Board leak for a potential localization for Taiko: Drum 'n Fun for the Nintendo Switch. Today, it was confirmed that the game would be coming to North America and Europe on November 2. This marks the first Taiko game to get an official English translation since a very heavily edited localization on the PS2.

However, this wasn't the only announcement that Bandai Namco made in regards to Taiko. Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session will be launching exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on the same day; November 2. You can see the announcement trailer below.

Enjoy the cult classic arcade rhythm game from Japan in the comfort of your own home! Play to the beat using your own drum with wide variety of new songs and challenge your friends to prove who has the best taiko skills. Enjoy beloved characters on your journey to become a legendary taiko drummer! Enjoy a casual and competitive Taiko arcade experience on the PlayStation 4 through standard rhythm mode and ranked versus play.

Key Features

  • Play With Your Friends – Play with a friend in co-op and versus mode, or play online with ghost data of your friends to see who can achieve the best score.
  • Ranked Mode – Connect online and test your skills against the ghost data of Taiko players all over the world to see who is #1.
  • Many Characters Available – Play Guest Session using characters such as Hatsune Miku, Heihachi Mishima, and more.
  • Enjoy an Iconic Song List – Over 70 songs featuring Dragon Ball Z, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Frozen, and many more!
  • Unlockable Content – Play through the game and unlock costumes for Taiko series mascot Don-chan, sound effects, and greetings

Drum N Fun will utilize the Switch Joy-Cons motion as a control scheme, but will also offer traditional controller input as well. Both games will feature songs from popular Japanese anime, and local co-op.

Oh lord I think I'm coming down with a case of the vapors.

TATACON BUNDURU PLEASE.

Lovely!
I wonder if the Switch game will have a drum. Hopefully it will, because that would mean I can connect it to PC in a better way than the Wii drum. (USB or Bluetooth rather than a 3rd party Wiimote-extension>USB converter or Bluetooth through a Wiimote THAT USES BATTERIES.)

I am, indeed, for real. Why?
Just cause we can stumble around the menus and get into a song doesn't mean there's not a language barrier. Just as if you are interacting with a person who doesn't speak your language, they might still understand your intentions, but that doesn't mean there's not a barrier..
Not to mention, we actually want the games here, we don't wanna have to rely on imports or using foreign eshops and use fake addresses to purchase shit.

I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be localized.

Why tho? Its not like language barrier is a thing here.
Yeah the menus are really easy and straightforward to navigate through even if you dont know any japanese, but the localization of taiko (and donkey konga) games usually brings forward different song lists like more popular english songs to drum to

And I don't see any reason why they should, if there's no language barrier.

Also there's an english patch coming out in august for the japanese version of the game so the biggest reason to get the localized version will just be the different song list it'll have

Awesome to see this, but the fonts and translations they chose for all the menus and gameplay are so bland.

They did so much better when they called the game, "Taiko Drum Master" instead of "Taiko no Tatsujin". Nobody in the west is going to know what a Tatsujin is, unless they were already huge weebs who were playing it in Japanese.

Get your shit together, Bamco, or this one's going to be a commercial flop.

That's why it has the subtitle "drum'n fun", which tells you what the game is about.
Super dope! I’m gonna swing the snot out of my joycons!
Supposedly the motion controls are quite bad. Button controls are always an option of course, but it's not the same.
