tutorial: riivolution + usb loader gx

disclaimer:
first: this is not the best way of doing it this is just a easy to understand begginer method doing it with wiimms iso tools is better but is not a begginer method
second: this does not work with all mods but works most of them
tutorial:
1: get the game rom the format dont matter much only needs be recgonized by dolphin emu
2: get the riivolution mod
3: open dolphin emu and add the game there
4: right click on the game and go to properties->file system then right click the disc and select extract entire disc (how you are using dolphin the dump is quite bad so if the file "opening.bnr" or most of the mod files are missing do the dump again but with the computer disconnected from the internet) now select a folder for the game be dumped (if it is empty higher the chance of a better dump)
5: now you need to mannually overwrite the original game files with the mod files (do NOT change the file extension if it is not the same exept for ".er" or ".brstm")
6: open dolphin again and add another game this game go to "\folder you dumped the game\data\sys\" and select to check on sub directories just for be sure
7: right click the game that should be saying that is 0 bytes now select convert file and make sure that the first option is iso and dont change anything else
8: use wii backup manager to convert your iso back to wbfs
9: done

After extracting the iso and modifying the files (which is a lot of work depending on the mod), we still have to do some memory patches to the main.dol file on some mods to make the modified rom work.
That's my real problem,
Wit can do that with the command dolpatch (https://wit.wiimm.de/wit/cmd-dolpatch.html), but everytime I tried, I didn't succeed. The game stays on black screen.
Tried with Super Mario 3D Galaxy and Mario Kart Wii Deluxe.

try doing the modify files part on WIT if still black screen tell me that i'll try figure out how to memory patch the game main.dol

I tested it with a mod called Super Mario Gravity to see if it worked and it kinda worked, some animations, textures and text were glitched but the rest was working. I think that is because the Riivolution .xml file can't be patched in this method, so for the mods that don't use that file this method is good and easy :), but for the ones that use that file it's better to use an ISO Patcher.

yeah but then it would need to be made an iso patcher for every wii game and this isnt the case games like kirby's epic yarn do not have one but this method works with most mods and games even the ones that dont have an iso patcher

I tried to do super Mario galaxy 0 but every time I launch it, my screen turns black and nothing else, I also tried replacing the wbfs with the original game (just to check if there's a problem outside the rom) and that worked absolutely fine. I think the problem is that this mod has a custom code folder, (I assume) its being initialized by the xml files. how do I fix this?

If I understand correctly this is basically the same tried and true process used for some other game mods like newer super Mario bros, but other games that are "riivolution locked" need more than just replacing some files in the original game image (if I understand correctly). These games also need some memory patches. Sometimes this can be accomplished without riivolution and instead using cheats/ocarina like in the case of super smash bros infinite for example, but in many other cases u gotta use riivolution with the actual game disk. At least that's the prevailing wisdom today. Naturally if you discover a different method I'd be happy to be proven wrong in this case, lol

well this method only works with some mods i recommend you using an real iso patcher or just using game disc until i dont learn more on how to patch WBFSes and sharing here but if you still want to play on USB Loader GX i'd recommend patching the memory with an hex editor like HxD but i dunno how to use it

i modified metroid other m with maxximum edition mod but it caused more than just black screen it partially bricked the entire system to point that system menu won't even load and remotes won't sync

try using priiloader to recover that, maybe isnt related to the mod and was just a coincidence, wii crashes during gameplay dont brick the system, at maximum corrupts an save file
