"The recent one" being 9.9.0-26? Can you give us an exact number from System Settings? There would be a U, E, or J as well.

Do you have a New 3DS XL? If so, you would select "USA NEW 9.9.0". If not, then choose "USA OLD 9.9.0".
Be sure to tap "Change Firmware Version" if it appears before you can choose your version.

Then you would select "USA OLD 9.9.0".

Did you also make sure to put the "homebrew starter kit" onto your sd card? There should be a folder called 3ds (not the one called Nintendo 3DS) and a file called boot.3dsx.

In case you need it: https://smealum.github.io/ninjhax2/starter.zip

Try going to the eShop and seeing if you need an update for YouTube. There are two methods:
    • Tap Menu in the top left, tap Settings / Other, then Updates.
    • Search for YouTube and see if you can download an update for it.
