It is not to late, this sort of stuff has been done since Fusse Gelee was disclosed.

If you want "coldboot" a modchip soldered to D+/D- testpads is the closest thing you will ever get on higher FW. No need for a cable or phone, so certainly is nice if you are competent enough to solder everything correctly.
