Hacking Trimming down games

Do we need the PS3Update files that is in almost every game for it to run properly?

If yes, is it possible to replace this file with a low decoy file?
Anyone know any other common files that can be deleted to save harddrive space?

Unfortunately my crossover cable is still being delivered here which means I cannot find these things out by myself. If anyone knows this information, please feel free to share it

Probably just movies. Idk, maybe other data files for "extras" or whatever. If you remove movie files, the best bet is to replace them with smaller movie files. I can't think of other things.

I wonder if that would be possible. Replace the movie files with various other files with the right encoding
