Is it possible to "redownload" titles that you've installed and then transfer them to the WiiU? Does it just look for the game's info on your wii or does it actually look to see that you've spent money?

It transfers your shop account and then lets you redownload from there. You can't "trick" it to transfer channels you don't own.

Once you transfer to the Wii U, your purchases are stuck there. I believe one user here said that even after using a nand backup, the shop channel on the old Wii would complain if you tried to access it. --- That said, if you have a wad that should install just fine.
