Gaming Transfer Machine on Pokemon Black.

I know there was a topic about the transfer machine, but it didnt really answer my question when I read through it.

Basically, I want to actiate the Zorua event, I have the event Celebi, done everything OK until using the transfer machine. It gives me an error message when I connect my 2 DS's together.

Now I know people said it wouldn't work with American versions of HG/SS/ D/P/P, but I have a Japanese copy of Diamond, which is totally legitimate.

I've been playing Pokemon White on my R4 until my official copy comes in the post on Monday, but I am just wondering if the reason it wont let me transfer is because I'm not using the retail copy of White or what?
