Sooo... if I do all the stuff it says on the instructions, will my R4i be compatible with DSi 1.4.5? I don't want to be compatible with 3DS, just DSi 1.4.5!
And no, I can't downgrade my DSi because it's European
I was struggling 1 total month on my laptop trying to find things...
I'm gonna try these instructions out soon!

I'm terribly sorry. I'm not familiar with the Nintendo DSi XL, how it works, and whether that flashcart (if it works again) will be compatibility to your system. I just direct and refer people to what I think they're trying to find.

You'll probably have a better time finding your answers in the Nintendo NDS Discussions side of GBAtemp as they're more aware and knowledgeable of your system and flashcart. Look in the R4 DS section as they specialize in that specific cart family.

I'm not sure if this is of interest to you or have heard, but the DSi system has been hacked with its very first custom firmware.

OK sorry also remember...
It's not my fault or anyone's fault that we need to upgrade R4i's and buy stupid clones...

It's nintendo's fault...
...and their updates...

I don't blame Nintendo. I mean yah, it sucks they block flashcarts, but if you were the CEO of the company, wouldn't you do everything in your possible powers to protect your brand and products against real and perceived threats undermining your game sales? This is the price of homebrew in the ever lasting arms race between personal freedom to do what you want [& the others bits] versus their security measures in tampering their system software. Shades of grey, my friend, and not 50 of them (Ewww).

How's Greece economically doing these days? If you have US$20 to spare, here's a flashcart that has up to this point been update proof: R4i Gold Plus. This works for all 3DS, DSi, and DS in playing DS-only games. It has the added bonus hacking and software recovery.

Before I give up... I will explain the root of my problem as simple as possible...
I want to play my R4i on my DSi 1.4.5... I borrowed my friend's ds lite... I full formatted my SD card with Panasonic SD formater... I put the latest firmware on my SD card.. (1.84b)... I open my R4i (I mean the ds lite) and went to upgrade... and there was no start button... *sigh* why does life has to be so hard... all I want to do is play some ds games... Why does this has to be so haaard... It's also MY fault that I updated my DSi XL AFTER THE DSI SHOP SHUTDOWN... I'm the dumbest of the dumbs....

I might have an idea why your flashcart doesn't work. It probably has something to do with what's call a time bomb that makes the cart stop working when the DSi calendar date is one or two years after it's made.

Try changing your DSi to the earliest date that you can. It might not work because the DSi was first released in 2008 or 2009 depending which region, and the flashcart expiration limit may be past due because your cart states it was (probably) made in 2007.

I think that RetroGameFan link I shared to you has the updates to bypass this. It might not work as there are a lot of one off clones and clones of clones that muddies the water in figuring out what should work or not.

Hmm guess I'll try the simple, instead of looking at complicated stuff

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

NOPE! Still nothing! Hmmm I think maybe just maaaybe... the start button missing... has to do something with the flash.r4i file located at the R4iMenu folder... Because I've heard that the file is not supposed to be 2MB it's supposed to be larger...
