I've searched for a topic on this game, but..
Alpha dream, the developers who have create the magnificent Mario&Luigi saga on gba and ds, have made a gba game years before. A very funny game, and very similar to Mario&Luigi, but with no releases out of japan, so noone knows it.
I'm helping in a translation group (but i'm not a translator), and we want to work on Tomato Adventure soon. We have no hackers, so I'm asking, if anyone can help with hacking, we can make a great patch rather than a simple textual translation ^^

I could probably do it, Its been awhile since I last did a proper rom hacking project but my skills have improved in other areas so it shouldn't be hard at all.

Excellent! I loved the look of this game when I saw it many years ago. Thanks for starting to translate it!

That's great ^^ We'll start as soon as we get the text.
I don't know exactly how it works, because we have done all the work reading text from the screen up until now, but i have some basic knowledge. I know how to switch the text in an english gba rom for example (if there is no compression or other problems), but i don't know what to do if sentences are longer or shorter (i have found guides only for snes games), and i don't know how to get a table for japanese language. I would want to make an italian version after the english one is ready, so i need to understand at least the 'shorter-longer' problem.. if you have free time for show me an example, or if you have a guide somewhere, i would be very thankful ^^

Did a quick little menu hack (expanded the text limit to 7 from 6 and shifted it over 8 pixels to the left)

Not even 10 posts and you're already making a great contribution. Great start!

I'm looking forward to this, good luck. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about hacking or Japanese, so I can't help much outside of beta testing (although I usually flunk at that too, since I have a short attention span).

    Well, good luck!

Well done and good luck with the project! I can definitely seen some M&L elements in the game. Quick question though- did this ever receive a hack yet? I saw this video, which appears to have some small English already-

    Now I saw this, too.

It seems he worked on Mother 3, maybe you know him. How much of the hacking and the translation it's done already?

It doesn't say, in the video or in the description.. I would suggest sending him a message and asking, and maybe he could at least provide some script or tools or whatever. It would make your job easier to say the least.

Ah, almost forgot: our translator's english is much better than mine, and she's used to talk in english.. but still, it's not her first language. So, it is better if someone here check up a little.

If i remember correctly Mato stopped working on it because it had such a huge script one that was almost a big as Mother 3.

Any who IF this project is to be completed in a good time frame you'll need more than one rom hacker.

No problem for us, I hope there are enough hackers to do what it needs :/

I noticed Mato doesn't access often neither this forum or the youtube channel, if you know how to contact him please do it ^^

This game seems interesting even though i've never heard of it before. [IMG] Definitely downloading it when it's ready for release.

And hey, if you need a beta tester, I can do that. I can be a grammar nazi, and write down all of the grammars needing fixins. [IMG]

We're trying to start the Capt. Rainbow project too, if that goes well I think we have to wait for this game. We still want to do it, so any eventual hacking work done in the meantime won't go to waste. When the time comes, having an english grammar nazi will be great ^^

And yay! It'll be just like the time I went all grammar nazi when I saw that NINTENDO typoed!!! LOL

I'm kinda OCD about tests sometimes, though. I'll be all "blah blah blah said this when blah blah blah in blah blah blah and it's supposed to be blah blah blah."

The title screen music is an unused track in Superstar Saga.
