Hacking To update or not?

Got my Supercard DSTWO today, and when I ordered it a few weeks ago I decided that I would update my 3DS as soon as I got it to work. Now I am sitting here with my working DSTWO on a 4.2 3DS and I am not sure I want to update anymore. I bought Shin Megami Tensei: Soul Hackers a few weeks ago to, which wants me to update to 5.1 and I really want to play that game, also really hyped for Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies.

I am not interested in buying a Gateway 3DS. I am however very interested in Smealum's softmod/hack. What would you guys do?

Same here. I bought a couple of 3ds games and dont want to update before dumping. I thought about waiting that Smea's dumping tool/redNAND or GW2.0 for that NAND software dumping, but if it isn't released before 23nd november (yep, my GF's birthday and guess what's the present), I'll do NAND dumping via hardware to wait for that homebrew train and will try to develop something.

Any launcher.dat to NAND dump will be available soon? redNAND maybe? FW spoofing without the GW red card?

I tried to do that GW installer with an R4 for that FW spoof but when I load the launcher.dat, the 3DS doesn't load the game. Damn GW restrictions...

Only want to play retail games avoiding a permanent update.

Even if you dump the NAND with software and then upgrade, you won't have a way to downgrade without installing a hardware mod.

Sure! I knew that, but I think its better to tear apart the 3ds once than twice for get the same final result. My experience with my X360 told me that

I was going to wait but I went ahead and updated. I already have a DS flash cart and that was good enough for me. Call me old school but I've been wanting to buy more games lately instead of downloading them. I think it's cause I've been going to college and if I went crazy on getting all those games I wouldn't know what to do with them.

Yeah, I've been like that too for the past 2 years. I always downloaded more DS roms than I had the time/will to play. I would be more interested in the homebrew for the 3DS, but I am very eager to play my purchased 3DS games.
