Hacking TinyTrimmer

It get rids of dummy data that was added on to make it to fit a DS size cartridge, which is good for people who use a small MSD. On my 1GB I've got nine games and trimming has saved my about 70mb. I remember Valkryie Rpofile was a 128mb rom, when I trimmed it was 65mb. So trimming can save you a lot of space; especially if you want to add on extra goodies.

Sweet, I have an 8GB card, but why not trim them?

You should add something to remove the release #ID.

Sorry, I don't really understand what you're saying. What can I say I've been up since 5 am. Are you asking why you should trim despite having an 8GB? If so, it just to save space.

On the release ID part, I don't think there's any point to it thoough I think you could change the release ID. I just can't remember how.

I said why not? As in: I'll do this, even though I don't need too.

Also, I was talking about the program having a function to remove the release ID. It would just make it easier than removing them all by hand.

Example:

Making "#4687: Ragnarök DS (USA).nds" into "Ragnarök.nds"

every time i download a rom i immediately rename it from "#2354 - Mario Kart DS(U).nds" or whatever it says, to just "mariokart ds.nds". much simpler that way. i don't think it would really be necessary to add that to the app when you can easily do it manually :/

Nice handy tool but it missed the eggtest:

The size of the rom is written down at 4 bytes in the nds header and trimming to that size+136 bytes (for wifi data) is safe in most cases but some games ( 0040, 0132, 0192, 0318, 0357... ) MISS OR FAKE THIS VALUE.

Trimming 40 Hanjuku Eiyuu DS - Egg Monster Hero (JP) leaves only 136 bytes ... just to let you know about this bug.

Thank you for the Linux trimmer. Very grateful. However, the links on your first post(both Linux links) seem to be down. Anyway to get a reupload?

Thanks.

Nevermind, found it after a search at Filetrip.

Also, thanks again for this. I've been using NDSTokyotrim. Which is a great trimmer, but it sucks on Linux with wine(but as Brian pointed out, that's Wine's fault). So a Linux trimmer is very much appreciated. And it works beautifully. I'm a happy camper today.
