Read the description very carefully, the vast majority of those don't actually have the NIC, the yellow sticker covers a piece of plastic.

Is there any third party that actually works? The original is a bit expensive for my taste.
Is perhaps a USB-ethernet dongle usable on a PS2?

Thanks for the help. Guess I have to keep my eyes open for an original

Buy American, you get more (56k modem lol) for sure (few/no fakes of that, unlike of the ethernet-only type) and for cheap (I lucked out, but I bought one for 32 € and that was with ebay Global Scalper Program) :)

Will look into it for sure. All wares from abroad have a tax that's sits on top of shipping. Plus the NOK is f'ing worthless at the time being.
There is actually some good deals here in Norway though, often a lot cheaper than eBay. Since it's expensive to send from Norway and there is a smaller interest group I have made some good deals and various old games and consoles

Well finally got a official adaptor and sneaked in to a storage unit for old computers and literally stole some IDE harddrive.
And I can't believe I forgot Sony was the producer of the PS2, the maker of DVD + and a the useless stupid memory cards for PSP and Vita. So naturally the WD drive don't fit. Been doing some research and I understand I need a Maxtor or Seagate hdd to make it fit. Will any ide drive for those work, or do I need a specific model?
I know I can use adaptor or mod the drive to make it fit, but I want it as stock as possible

I've had good luck with the boards that keep the ethernet but convert the drive interface to sata. I've done 3 without issue
Let's me have a brand new drive instead of some old beast that's likely to die
