I used to have an old PSP1000 which died on me about 2 or 3 years ago. I replaced it with a DS and now I'm thinking of picking up a PSP3000 since they're going for $100 new here. Question is, are they hackable? Let's assume I buy a new 3000 and get it with the newest possible out of the box firmware. What would my options be? Can the 3000 run ISO's or does it need some sort of ISO loader? I still have my old memory stick with all the games I never got to finish...

Thanks

Well the possible firmware has to be lower then 3.90 so to some degree, it's hackable. But why bother getting a 3000, if you could get another 1000 and have it permanently hacked. (The 3000s are temporary hacks).

thats not really true if a psp 3000 is at 6.20 you can use the permanent bootloader and you can always flash the fw to 6.60 and downgrade to 6.20 if u wanted a perma flash.

What is the likelihood that I end up with a PSP with a firmware above 6.20? If it's above 6.20, what are my options?

Almost certain you're going to get something above 6.20 if you buy a new 3000 (which is 09g). But they were recently hacked to be able to downgrade to 6.20:

However, staying above 6.20 and doing a temporary hack is probably the easiest and smartest thing. It only cost you about 15 seconds every time you turn off your PSP (you don't have to turn it off-just use sleep mode!). There is also no other significant advantages the permanent hack has over the the temporary -- it's the same thing basically.

If you absolutely have to have the permanent hack that option is available in the link I provided . Just know that there is no current way to leave 6.20 if you downgrade with a 09g.
