So I have an original model ps4 only had it for about 3 years and whenever I boot a game the system quickly overheats I looked some stuff up about this none of it really helped I can still hear the fan inside the system though no air is blowing out the back so is only one fan working or what also what would be a good method to go about fixing this?

Well on the original, you can open the back cover , and Power on the unit, if the fan spin then it is not the problem. Did you did any teardown within the last few days.

Never been taken apart never dropped or anything I'll check the fan what I think is happening is that all the heat is being regulated to the back fan but its not being pushed out

Probably be a good idea if you open it and clean it if you haven't clean it for a long time. Dust clogging up fan and heat sink is no good, you can use dust off electronic duster for this. Good idea to replace the stock thermal paste with something like arctic silver 5, sounds like your maybe be dry up to cause the ps4 to overheat and shutdown. Under normal condition when it heat up it won't throw the red light and shut down.

Have you asked Sony if they still honor a warranty off some sort?

So this is a rather strange discovery after taking the system apart cleaning it out replacing the thermal paste and everything I didnt seem to help with the overheating issue then randomly I tried a digital game and for some reason I doesnt overheat when playing digital games only disk based games tried the same game and on disc it overheated digital version ran perfectly.

But does it still shut down?

when playing a disc yes it takes you to a screen saying the ps4 is too hot then 2 seconds later shuts off

That is interesting, well if you can run digital games just do digital then unless you got a lot physical, not sure reseating CPU clamp, the Blu ray drive shouldn't really cause it to overheat unless you gotten some thermal paste on it causing it to heat up. Since it is only physical copy is the problem I don't think it is your thermal pad around the CPU.

playing digitally is fine seeing my ps4 is running HEN so I could just dump my discs

But PS4 doesn't actually play games from disc does it? It just uses them to install the data to your HDD and then to verify it when you decide to play.

Hey @Zyvyn I'm not sure if you want to mod your casing, but this is an option, using 120mm fan filter. By the way are you using any cooler for your ps4?

no form of cooler and I have a 1215A model which is build very differently so this exact method might not work

Well probably should get a cooler if it does get hot, the 120mm thing is pretty much optional, even if you want to do you just need to figure out which area is the fan, to allow some better air flow in and out of the PS4, other areas with the 120mm fan filters is like optional to whether to have it or not.
