Very interesting! I haven't attempted to trim any of my personal dumps.

I'm going to give this a try right now (details very soon).

Yea I don't know how you are making/trimming your XCI's but for me this works just fine.
Maybe I used an outdated tool? I tried a few tho and all would error out

I also tried back in v1 so maybe a firmware update helped ?

I've only come accost two release that will not open with XCI Explorer v2.0.0 (tool I trim with) so far...

Princess Peach Showtime
Unicorn Overlord

You can see Unicorn Overlord here...

I can't trim this because its not using a valid master_key (16 is some kind of forward for the true key which is 11).
If I add this line to the "keys.txt" file (master_key_16 = and use master_key 11's value)...

I can now open (and correctly trim) the XCI...

As only the these most recent games use this illegal/fake key value system, I suspect its some new type of protection.
However as you can see, it has zero effect on your ability to correctly dump these carts (provided the console dumping is running the latest firmware).

it may work on your already modded Switch, but does it work on your unmodded Switch/ Lite?
Testing that would be a HUGE mistake!

The unmodded is also unban...
Even inserting the MIG containing one of these hack-o-rama XCIs would record BS values in my consoles NAND (something I could never remove being retail only).

I did however reboot my hacked Switch into retail mode (making the only difference the fact that its currently ban).

Anyway, yes these intentionally incomplete (deleted UID & ID) trimmed (using XCI Explorer v2.0.0 with updated keys.txt file) dumped using Switch in hacked mode (homebrew MigDumpTool 0.2) cart images work without any issues in retail mode.

Somebody said earlier in the thread that a factory reset wipes the metadata and makes it safe to go online after using the Mig... Is this not true?

factory reset only cleans USER data, not SYSTEM DATA nor TELEMETRY data, so you are dooomed

The CFW community has known about factory reset long before the MIG came along. If it were that simple of a step to remove incriminating evidence, we would all have done it long ago and made it one of the top most recommended steps. Hell, we wouldn't even have needed emunand.

In the very early days I did a factory reset attempting to do this very thing.

Far as I'm aware, every time you insert a cart the console logs its unique ID.
You can use manage data option to remove the entry on your dashboard sure, but these cart values are still present in the system NAND.

When connecting to Nintendo servers, this data could be (we don't know how aggressive this process will be yet) requested and bans issued accordingly.

If your Switch is unban, and you care about keeping it that way... Only use complete MIG images you've generated yourself and do NOT play online EVER (only insert them for the purpose of playing offline/airplane mode, and/or attaining DLC/updates later once the cart has been removed)!

If your Switch is already ban, that console is forever fucked anyway... So boot up as many incomplete/trimmed images as you like. In fact on a ban Switch its the format I actually recommend (not complete/untrimmed like on retail).

What are the current issues with getting dlc and updates on a new dump? is it the initial data bin file that doesn't match the repacked .xci?

You should not modify the Original XCI on any way.

The only way to put DLC or Updates inside a Dump and be able to use on the MIG device is if you can generate a new set of valid certificates, but that theoretically can only be done by the Ninjas.

Your dump would need to have the dlc or updates included

Like the limited pokemon scarlet and violet releases that have the dlc

hmm, so if the certificate files is generated to match the .xci file then it can work. not simple to do but still plausible.

Anything is possible if you have enough money and resources. in this case is almost impossible that is the objective of the PKIs

Whenever trimmed dumps work depends on 2 factors. First did you only remove data the Switch is not using like padding data (the ROM chips come in power of 2 sizes so there is almost always unused space)? And second if the Mig returns correct padding data in case Nintendo attempts to read out of bounds as a check.

I really hope it won't. Lots of promises have been made, hopefully they'll be fulfilled at some point at least. I haven't check yet, but are there any reputable reviews of the UnlockSwitch? Or are they still waiting for the software that must be flashed onto it before they can be used?

No review can be done, they have no available firmware so the people what has been able to get the hardware is only a piece of plastic and sand because the hardware do absolutely nothing!

Remember how mass production “started” a month ago? 😂

And yet all those “reviewers” that got early versions have as useful of a product as everyone else. This is looking more and more like a grift by the day. They don’t know how to actually make it work with the switch OS like the Mig.
