I did the following procedure for my NTSC-U Wii + 1.9g and ended up with a normal Wii, no duplicated channels.

0. Update Wii to latest version through online.
1. Patch the ISO with RegionFrii.
2. Burn the ISO at 2x with IMGBurn and verify turned on.
3. Patch the SAME ISO with Brickblocker (so now it's RegionFriied AND Brickblocked)
4. Burn the second ISO at 2x with IMGBurn and verify turned on.
5. Pop in the first burned disc.
6. Update to ~10-15%, pull the plug.
7. Pop in the second burned disc.
8. Works perfectly.
9. Throw away first disc, it's useless now.

NTSC-U with 1.9G Wiikey and 3.1U firmware.
Did exactly the same,
No duplicate channels game works fine, trying to figure out how to go to brawl mode

Oh crap I installed the update (duplicate channel method) and when I tried playing my Wii said 'Error 001 Unauthorized device has been detected.' D:

I'd been sure my firmware was 1.9g, but now that I think about it, it may have been 1.9b. Would that explain it?

I have 1.9b and the game works fine on my console (i let it update to get the dual chan's)
Well I just got it modded yesterday so I haven't used the configuration disk yet... maybe I still need to turn on the region free setting thing?

edit: YES, it all works. ;_; just had to use GCOS to change region free settings and install 1.9g

I know almost no one else uses this, but my Wii with Drive Doctor works with this using the original SMG fix firmware.

I updated fully and just moved the dual channels in the far right group of panels so I'll never have to see them, settings are still accessible, game runs.

Waiting on the DL version of course.

Console: NTSC-U
Chip: Cyclowiz 3.6b

DVD5 copy burned @ 4x w/ verbatim dvd+r.

Game updated, loads (with the smash symbol loading thing), asks about the save file and such, then the drive clicks and makes noises and I get an error message in green and have to turn the console off. Anyone encounter this?

I got the same problem. Then I switched to DVD-R which worked flawlessy.

do not use DVD+R discs.

I recommend Traxdata DVD-R

I've used nothing but DVD+Rs for 50+ games and never had a problem. Interestingly enough, my wii now is having trouble reading any Wii games (but GCN games work). I'm thinking something tweaked the laser or something when I was taking it apart? Like, I put in a game... my original Zelda won't even get a splash screen on the disc channel (it clicks a bunch then gives me DRE straight from the Wii menu). I have a burned copy of Tenkaichi 3 that does get read, boots up, but upon the opening cinematic starts distressing and making noises, then DREs. My No More Heroes copy DREs after pressing start from the disc channel, and so forth.

But, I can run an original copy of SSBM fine, and I ran the Cyclowiz 3.6b update dvd fine. Anyone have any sort of idea what's going on? Thanks in advance.

This could be old, but...
As you might know, the game crashes at the end of the credits if you finish Classic with the Singe Layer-dump. Your trophy, coins and the fact that you finished Classic disappears with the crash. However, if you go to the Home Menu and restart the game during the credits, you won't lose anything. You'll even get all those little messages when the game starts. :3

I need some help I burned the tmd from usenst and burned about 5 copies all were coasters, I used different speeds and Nero and Imgburn, all other games worked

RegionFrii is NOT needed at all for people with a wiikey.  Follow these instructions exactly (minus RegionFrii)and you will have no problem whatsoever.  Brickblocker  is necessary for the second disc that you burn

if you burn the ISO without any alterations, and run the update, you will get dual channels and be able to play the same.

Even though I have a Wiikey, I like to Regionfrii my ISO anyway. Why? I'd rather have the region change hard coded into the disc rather than patched in real time by my modchip. Seems more stable the Regionfrii way.

QUOTE(Carnivean @ Feb 3 2008, 12:13 AM)There's a chance that the update to support DL is actually added at the end of the update, 15% would therefore stop that part being installed and stop the original or a DL copy playing.
Forget that, if you do the 15% trick, you can later go back and complete the update (this is why you need a Brickblocked copy to play if doing the 15% trick). If there are problems, all you have to do is finish updating. So I say go ahead, there's really nothing to lose the way I see it (I'm actually the one who first brought up the above thought).

that's weird, I have always had problems when I burned games with DVD+R, my wii drive makes weird noises and I get DRE's.

However, every single DVD-R works fine. For me, minus media is MUCH better.

before I do anything that can potentially harm my wii, if I use the mp3 method, can I still use everything like it was before I did this?
I have 3.1U firmware and I'm not sure what chip I have.

Anyone know if it works with Argon.. I plan to chip my Wii with Argon because its updateable. But, I don't know if Argon can run Brawl.

All right, so I tried all my originals; Wii Sports, Zelda, Excite Truck, Elebits, Sonic, Wii Play, Guitar Hero III and Mario Galaxy. SMG and Sonic got a splash screen, then failed as DRE. Guitar Hero III spun up, i go the first nintendo screen, then the disc slowly stopped spinning and stopped (no funky noises) and i got a different error along the lines of 'the disc could not be read'. Maybe it's just GHIII's dre screen, i dunno. Elebits plays perfectly fine, all the way into a level, not any freezing or any DRE, tried it twice (i tried elebits, it worked, i used the home button to return to wii screen, tried GHIII, it failed, tried elebits again and it still worked). No other game even got the splash screen on the disc channel. Three burned games I've tried have gotten a splash screen, haven't tried any others (the ones I tried were Brawl, NMH and Tenkaichi 3).

So from all that, I think I've learned that either 3.6b really messes with the settings, or maybe my laser just suddenly needs a calibration. Anyone have any info on laser calibration? Is it safe to flash from 3.6b back to 3.5 to test games?

EDIT

http://psx-scene.com/forums/cyclowiz/59098...-wont-boot.html

That TC's problem sounds A LOT like mine. Maybe it is something with the firmware update messing with the settings and needed to be calibrated or something. He talks about just using wiifree firmware instead. Is there a version of that firmware that works with smg? I would have no problem using some other firmware if that's a case. Or is the Cyclowiz 2.0 firmware out there somewhere to test if it's just 3.5/6b giving me trouble?

EDIT 2
Tried WiiFree 2.45 USA Fullspeed and that didn't change anything either. Would medium speed maybe do anything different?

I did the mp3 trick, got the brickblocker iso working, but got to the char select screen and froze when I selected a computer.

Then i wiped the DVD with a damp cloth because there were some scratches. Put it in and it would stay at the black screen.

So im thinking the DVD is just messy, im burning another one at the moment and hope it will work.

What about CycloWiz? Is RegionFrii needed for that?

Does anyone also know about this "change Region settings" thing people are talking about, and if it needs to be done with the cyclo?
