The MIG Switch reportedly does not work on the Nintendo Switch 2

sotch2.png

With the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 today, one of the first things homebrew enthusiasts set out to do was see if the MIG Switch flashcart would work on the console. Prior to release, retailers of the flashcart were claiming that it worked with the Switch 2, but thanks to the efforts of users on GBAtemp, it appears that it in fact does not work. Beginning with the post in this thread, here, with a photo of a Switch 2 and MIG Switch resulting in an error code. Whether or not there is a workaround or fix is uncertain. Furthermore, a MIG Switch retailer posted about having a Switch 2 unit a month ahead of launch, stating that the unit worked, with what appear to be misleading claims. The potentially shady practices shown here.

I can confirm that this thread and my own post it linked is no longer true. I will begin to enjoy my MIG switch on my Switch 2 and report back if my system gets banned

Thank you very much! Hopefully it doesn't, but if it does, at least we will know. :)

That is true but, Ninjas for sure got some MIGs and reverse engineering it more quickly than anybody. so they know now how MIG works better than MIG Team, so they are capable to differentiate from original cartdriges
But that is a cat and mice game, to be won by MiG Team eventually.

and only 1 photo from 1 guy. I will post it If I get banned :D
Using around 20 gamecards, all own dumps
3 questions:
  • Did you use your MIG exclusively with the latest 1.2.0 firmware in your Switch 2?
  • Did you use untrimmed XCI?
  • Did you take care of not inserting the original cart in another Switch while using the MIG?
Thank you in advance.

Dumped the games with Migdumper homebrew, nothing trimed . Only used on 1.2.0
After the dumping procedure I did no use the Gamecards anymore.
Playing Mario kart world online every day and the kids play other games on migswitch

This seems to be the safest approach... even if recent discoveries seem to suggest that
  • Trimmed/untrimmed dumps shouldn't matter anymore, since MIG is trying to handle OOB reads with firmware 1.2.0.
  • They're clumsily trying to handle OOB reads with the result that the cart now is technically discoverable both with trimmed and untrimmed dumps... but N seems to be fooled by the current approach.

Haven't seen one of these in quite a while. Definitely an interesting concept even today. Too bad it has major drawbacks though with being limited to much older firmware versions, let alone doesn't allow you to run custom software. Definitely nifty for your cartridge backups though!
I hadn't heard of this before. Besides, Nintendo seems to know if you have launched a MIG Switch on your Switch 2
