Because in those games the results and rewards of your work are visible and immediate, much unlike the real life version. And there's a happy jingle every time you complete a task, tickling your reward centers.

Plus failure isn't a huge deal, unlike real life.

There was a time in Youtube's history that you could download the video you wanted for a dollar. This feature did not last long.

Turns out it was more profitable to make people watch a dozen ads per video every time they want to see it.

There used to be ads that would go on for over 30 minutes if you didn't catch it. Does Youtube still do that?

My favorite were/are the fake news reports. Back in the broadcast days, medicare ads would do that setup, and they always looked super fake with lots of scrolling word vomit all over the screen. The Youtube variant did its best to fool you into thinking this was the video you wanted.

I remember there was a youtuber who made an ads and sent it to youtube advertisement system.
In short, the ads was a rick'roll, and the video where he explained what he did was named "i rick rolled the entirety of youtube" or something like that
