Hacking The DSTT is awesome!

I accidentally found out today that when you close the DS with the DSTT menu on it doesn't sleep. Only the light turns off. So if start a game with the DS half-sleeping the light will remain off in-game as well. It's a great way to conserve battery power when you're using your DS in a well lit area.

So you can basically play a game with no backlight? That's pretty interesting as that would help with glare. More like a glitch rather than a feature. Still however really nice to have.

Edit: Nevermind, but still saves battery. I still think it looks a lot better with the light on max.

Most flashcarts don't enter sleep mode when the DS is closed, which means they use the same amount of power as if they are open. From what your describing sounds more like a bug than a feature and may be fixed in a future update. ;p

At any rate, the cheat database in my signature has codes for every game that allows you to control the backlight using key combinations.

I think he means the backlight is entirely off but the screen is still on. The cheat only allows real time change between the 4 levels of brightness. Other flashcarts probably turn the screen off+ the backlight.

I tried this with the YSMENU but it doesn't work. The DS sleeps completely in the main menu and there's not way to keep the light off.

By the way I use an original DS with my DSTT.

Tried this aswell with my DSLite and fw 1.10. Did NOT work.

I tried this with my friend's DSTT today with 1.07. It didn't work.
Out of all the things I tried only my DSTT works so far. (I tried 1.08, 1.09, 1.10 they all work ok)
I'll try to put a picture on the web.

I tried this on a Lite and it works, but the Lite's screen is build differently and it's really dark, impossible to see.

This also works on R4.

the backlight is the panel of light behind the screen that lights it up. lcd's aren't normally backlit. look at the original gameboys and similar handhelds. if your backlight manages to go out, you can only play in really, really, really well lit areas, or replace it. i remember the magnifying glass/light that you needed to play the originals in the dark.
