I put the US versions of cheats into the cheat code editor, I put the same list onto my DS but the descriptions always come up in Chinese or Japanese, as well some cheats come up in English but only certain words it seems.

you probably got a chinese/japanese flashcart then. either that or you misconfigured your language settings.

What cheat file itself has the descriptions written like that, the R4 firmware can't automagically translate. the gbatemp cheat.dat is in all english.
