Remember your first time playing Tetris on Game Boy? You know what would make that experience even better? 3D.

Nintendo has just announced that Tetris: Axis will see release in North America on 2nd October, bringing with it 8-player Download Play, Augmented Reality and SpotPass features too. In fact, there are over 20 gameplay modes, running from the classic survival and arcade modes to six-player online play over Nintendo WiFi Connection.

Will you be slotting this one into place in your 3DS game collection come 2nd October?

The original portable Tetris® game was a smash hit on the Game Boy™ system. The new Tetris: Axis game lets players use the magic of the Nintendo 3DS system to jump into the action in 3D without the need for special glasses. The game includes more than 20 different modes – some familiar, some new. Up to eight players can compete in wireless multiplayer battles, even if only one player has a game card**. Tetris: Axis also makes use of the augmented-reality and SpotPass™ features of Nintendo 3DS.[/p]

Tetris is awesome.

I'll probably get this, But I want Starfox more. The 3DS's lineup sure is awesome.

Yay, Tetris title number 423438247320984735234523456457567768675462341. I may be off by one or two numbers.

This better be 3DS-Ware, that way it will at least be at a fair price.

Tetris is still a fair game for a higher price. Considering how many hours people spend on Tetris compared to any other game, you're getting enough bang for your buck.

I'd easily pay $40 for a good game of Tetris with tons of modes and features over $40 for like Star Fox 64 or Ocarina of Time, honestly. Tetris fucking rules.

seems to be retail. no way im going to spend more then 10 euros on a tetris game...but thats perhaps just me. on a sidenote, i still play the DS-tetris fairly often

I would hold out for the inevitable 3DSware release, but I doubt we'll see the full game via download - probably just one or two modes (like the Tetris DsiWare, which is awesome). I love Tetris, but I think I'll wait for a retail price drop for this one, or pick it up in one of Amazon's sales.

That AR Tetris looks fun as hell though.

How sweet of them, adding a bunch of random modes to justify the 40 dollar price to the average consumer.

For me, any traditional Tetris game is worth, in itself, a lot of money. I'm buying this.
