Gaming Tactical RPGs!

Advance Wars Days of Ruin will be more RPGish, as units can level up and be carried over mission to mission. Or so I've read, it should own though, I will enjoy it.

From what I've read, the units leveling up cannot be carried over from mission to mission, so it's more of an added tactical element.

Anyways, don't be so quick to put down RTS. I found FF12: Revenant Wings quite similar to FFTA, in that you still manage certain forces and such. Give it a try, maybe you'll be hooked onto a new genre.

Avoid the one below, it basically had you doing training missions where you hit your own characters to receive experience points. This helped you tackle the main missions ahead. Also avoid Onimusha Tactics, bad game too on the GBA. Try Fire Emblem on the GBA, or Rebel Star Command on the GBA.

For the DS...

Give Age of Empires a try, I was quite impressed with it more so than Advance Wars. Advance Wars is good though, don't get me wrong here; but not much different from the GBA titles. I also thought it was alittle short, but expanded with the 'Hard' Setting by changing the original 'Normal' Mode level campaign. Alternatives,

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2.
New Advance Wars game.
Panzer Tactics, (Fairly deep game).
Front Mission.
Fire Emblem.

Others will appear in time. There was talk of Jagged Alliance 2 coming to the DS, a very good PC game.

Are you kidding? Tactics Ogre is one of the best! Much better than FFTA.

No, I'm not. Tell me what you think was so good about Knights of the Lodis on the GBA, then let me rip it to shreds..

OMG, are you serious? Where did you read that? I love that game. It'd be awesome if it was ported to the DS.

Same goes for UFO/X-Com btw. I love the PocketPC remake on my mobile, even though it's buggy as hell. Another amazing TBS to port to the DS would be Silent Storm. One of my favorite PC games in recent years.

I wouldn't recommend Tactics Ogre either...I dl'ed it to my flashcart, after reading this topic...And might i say: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING....It's so slow, first, you move all your people...then..THe CPU moves all it's people...making you wait for like 5 minutes....And the HP on a character and their attack-rate is so unbalanced...It takes like 3 months to kill an enemy....I have no idea what the story is though, but it's too political for my taste anyway..I might start playing again after I finish the magnificently superb Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Which is awesome.
