Have you tried blowing into the R button ? Always did the trick for my DS.

any other way for people without a working r button. (sadly me)

Different solutions:

1) Repair the R button.
2) Format.
3) Open the console and try to find a way to simulate a R button press (not recommended)

cant seem to open either thanks to some striped screws even though I already have the part. and im not formating

the replacement buttons are very cheap, ask friends etc if anyone can use a drill (im just going to assume you cant to save a long winded discussion on how to use a drill) to remove the stripped screws.....personally i wish people would get a decent screwdriver set rather than stripping the screws all the time
