I would recommend a chip to ANYONE who has softmodded...
and still play your backups...
The Softmod is not about playing pirated backups but launching homebrew. Try launching homebrew apps on a 3.4 Wii without Softmod

The ability to launch backups without chip is just a side effect.

I think you have your terms confused... softmodding IS FOR playing backups... Homebrew is for homebrew...

I can put homebrew on my Wii without adding the softmod.... And yes, i can burn a disc with homebrew on it, and run the program right from my DVD drive without putting the Homebrew channel on...

I did not. Softmod means "modded through software", hardmod (alias chip) "modded through hardware". So a Softmod is every modification by software. The Twilight Princess Mod is a Softmod and it is needed to run Homebrew. So Softmod is for Homebrew but not "Homebrew is for Homebrew". The Backup loaders are just some homebrew but the Twilight Hack wasn't made to enable backup launchers but every homebrew, I guess you know team Twizers attitude towards piracy...

You can also run your homebrew disc on 3.4? Read my post, I wrote "on 3.4" or even on 3.5. I would love to see how your 3.4 Wii reads homebrew discs.

Softmod is just a software method to hack a system...
If you still don't know your basics then please don't try to school us.

I'm 33 years old ASM/C/Delphi/Java coder that started as cracker/reverser being in this game since 1991, so please don't take me for a fool.
I've been hacking/cracking protection scheme/training consoles and computers games/softwares so i know what it is all about.
When i tell you that softmod is for hacking, this all it's all about: Software Modification.

I can't add much to Mousex's post, he said it all.
Now what i wanted to say about modchip owners flaming the softmod users, was only because if you're pissed about people complaining about compatibility, just don't read it or don't answer.
But remember when you were a noob and asked for help.
Plus some people don't want to open their wii's if they can avoid it, others just can't afford to pay for a chip...

Hum... AnyTitle Deleter does it pretty much, doesn't it?

This said, have a nice day.

i second this but if you talk about softmodding in terms of console hacking it normally means playing backups via a software modification and not the possibility to run homebrew without modifying the hardware. at least that's what eb says since psx days.

True but overall a backup loader is a homebrew app that runs via the softmod. A softmod doesn't reffer to any specific tool It's simply refers to a tool that is all software based for the purpose of moding the function of a system be it a standard computer or a game console. Whatever that modified function be. Backup loading, homebrew loaders, linux, or whatever. Either way how did this topic go from an info topic about the release of 3.5k to a flame war between a dumb thick skulled noob and the more seasoned users over weather the 3.4 system menu can auto update (Which it can't) to a discussion on the difference between soft mod's and hard mods? lol Either way Anyone know if the 3.5 U is out yet?

Hi!

I bought my Wii already modded &, yes, i am conscient i am lucky to be able to. Some of you could think i am stupid, but this is MY choice, & i've chosen the easy way.

However, i was really happy & excited when the backup loader has been released, a great revolution in Wii Hacking &, most important, putting every Wii Owner at the same level. I love Wii hacking (i love to hack all my consoles when i am able to) & i will continue to follow very closely the news about that.

& i am sorry but you are not fair: this is not because there are some stupid guys haunting these boards that every modchip owner is like them!

Returning to the subject, we will see what the new update for other regions really brings when it will be released!

The only draw back for soft mod is the drive speed limitations. of course disk compatability is a little higher but thats the main appeal to a mod chip.

I gotta admit, as much as I love hacking my consoles, for some reason, I dislike it with the Wii...except for VC/WiiWare, and I just don't think there's any truly USEFUL non-piracy homebrew apps out there right now

ok i belive this is because of backups (i am so guilty of this too by the way) but some apps like softmii miiwii and others need it i guess

Emulation. This is the main purpose of my softmodded wii.
Don't play Wii/WW games, got kinda bored.
Really, i bought a Wii just to have a SNES. (Wow, a bit sad don't you think?)

See, I have several computers, and my Xbox for emulation, not to mention my hacked PSP and my DS with an Acekard 2. Don't get me wrong, I love my Wii I use the thing every day, I just can't get into modding for it. Guess Wii hacking just isn't for everyone

Well, back to Topic...since it looks like nobody posted this, and on WiiBrew there's no new Information, I thought I'll post this:
QUOTE said:
In Korea has the Nintendo Wii just by firmware to version 3.5 update. While as yet nothing about visible changes in Interface or the white features, Nintendo seems with this update is another step against piracy on the console to have done.

The update fixes the well-known Twilight Hack is hors de combat, which allows many users to the so-called homebrew channel on their consoles installed. While most of this gap only for software and harmless as FreeLoader replacement use, it opens up theoretical possibilities even pirates, for example, illegally using Wii software to handle.

So far the fix only prevents the reinstallation of the homebrew channel, which the hackers will soon again be able to bypass. The already-installed software will also exist after the update. In Europe, the USA or Japan, there is the 3.5 update yet, so Korea was perhaps the first Test.
See here (Bad translated from German to English).

So if this is true, Twilight Hack is (again
rolleyes.gif
) together with PatchMii dead. Time for Team Twiizers to release the other hack they're Testing, or find another holes in the Update, I think

.

Hope nobody posted this, if so, I'm sorry and ashamed...
