Hacking Sysnand > Emunand?

If I update my system to latest official firmware, will my emunand still work if it is on a separate sd card with have lower firmware? I use Atmosphere.

Yes, but if you are not preventing fuses from being burnt you might not be able to play using game cards in your emunand until you update it too.

I know 2 people who updated only sysnand and keep emunand on older version it still work

So far we have two votes saying “yes” one can update the sysnad through Nintendo and it won’t effect the sd cards with emunand running on lower firmware. And we have one vote saying “no” it will make the lower firmware emunand as cards not work requiring them to be updated to higher firmware.

Does anyone have definitive first hand experience with this? I want to avoid updating if it means having to update all my sd cards with emunand on lower firmware.

When I said game card I meant game cartridge, those you buy legally.
I myself use emunand on a lower firmware than sysnand and I prefer not to use auto rcm, so fuses got burnt and official game cartridges won't work on emunand, but it doesn't matter since I can still download them to my micro SD as nsp or whatever, since games installed to the SD on emunand work perfectly on a lower firmware.

I have a switch that I am running emunand on right now. its sysnand is on 6.2 and I am running emunand on 9.1.0
the CFW is atmosphere. the game carts wont work in 6.2 sysnand. I accidentally booted my OFW and got crash error because I had game cart in.

Thanks for your reply. I have read that emunand higher than sysnand is not a problem, but I was not sure about it being the other way around.

sounds like the consensus is that I should be fine updating my sysnad with Nintendo and still using separate sd cards running on lower firmware.
