Alright, I'm looking for a portable this time for myself, and I'm on a debate in which one to pick..

First of all the PS Vita its Cheaper, harder to find the correct version, but cheaper, we are talking 159.99 when purchasing almost brand new.. and around 140 when purchasing used.

Softmod its relatively easy, and now there are GameCard2SD, so iill be spending around 180 bucks in order to get a Vita with a decent memory card...

Now.. there's the Switch, recently discovered a 3.0.0 flaw giving something similar to Sudo Permission on system calls.

Sadly, this little piece of hardware cost 300 bucks, but we dont know what will be possible with this on the distant future.

Saying this, what would be the limitations on the PS Vita as right now? i've read that games after 3.60 cant be played, and atm there are activation issues, so im kinda lost on this.

Do we have any opinion on this? also, remember the cost of the games, aka 50-60 per game.

Vita has a 544p screen, tho it's OLED it's below the Switch's resolution.
The Vita is also less powerful then a Switch.
Also, Switch is newer and it's a Nintendo product, so it'll have advantages in homebrew as it's more popular.

Vita scene is slow.
Go for a Switch if you really want powerful homebrew.

Tough is low, the game library is kinda big, taking into account the sad library of Wii U, getting a Switch might also end into the same thing... which is the thing im trying to avoid, at least the vita has a Huge Library of games, and the homebrew might not be perfect, but it does the job [Kindoff], im also more referring to the games, the quantity of the posible games into the switch.

The homebrew, of what could be possible be using into the switch.. its going to be the same as always right? emulators? cheat stuff, piracy enablers.. am i right?

Homebrew wise, the Switch will be more powerful then the Vita.
Not to mention that the Switch will attract more homebrew devs as it's a more attractive platform.

Switch... idk, if it will suffer the same fate as the Wii U, I'm inclined to believe it as Nintendo is probably creating artificial demand again.
But it seems the Switch is a bigger success then the Wii U.

What you could do is get a Switch now and later on a Vita.
Any new Vita outside of Japan comes with 3.60 or below installed as Sony ceased production.
Switch however is a different story.

Well, we i got enough info of the Switch already, but what about the vita?

What about the limitations on the Vita as today, for online play, game updates and so on, version spoof, activation issues, limit on playing certain version of games?

Online play is possible but you'll have to download decrypted game updates for decrypted games (pirated games) and they aren't abundant.
Not to mention there's only 3 Scene dumps which are all basegames.
The rest is user dumped content which may or may nor work.

Activation is an issue as Sony removed activation on 3.60 recently.
Tho, Flow is creating something for Adrenaline to run in Vitas who haven't been activation.

I've got a Vita 1101 model, but barely use it for games released on that platform. I use it for emulation, and its great at it.

Might get a Switch soon when all comes as I want. And yes, Nintendo products are more attractive to homebrew than other platforms. I'd get a Switch.

Why is that you dont use it for games released on that platform?

Most games released are crappy ones, RPG's mostly. I like RPG's but not those that you play taking turns, they're boooooring. Even lees those that use an Anime as an excuse to exist, those are the crappiest of them all, but I do like Anime.
Don't like sports games (cough, cough, FIFA), at least not in videogames.

There are at most 10/15 released games at most that are worth playing according to my very own taste, so I prefer emulation and even so, they are hand picked systems/games.

True, i was more interested in playing Dragon Quest Builder, never had a chance, had it in Japanese Language on the PS3, but never totally enjoyed due the language barrier.

Yeah, Dragon Quest Builder is one of those 10/15 games I'd like to play, just haven't had the chance and time. Not to mention the memory space (I have a 4GB memory card with 15 indie games, all great ones). But I'm waiting for my SD2Vita card to arrive by the mail, and then nothing will stop me from playing those 10/15 games worth playing...

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

but that game barely runs at native 4k

I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that

least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously

Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting

Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more

    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.

i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
