I could, but it's not really worth it. I don't mind just denying the update whenever I start software; I'm a careful boy

Well, okay, but still >.> I've gone to ridiculous lengths to prevent accidental updates, using both DNS and physically blocking the sites on the router.

I also block receive-lp1.dg.srv.nintendo.net and receive-lp1.er.srv.nintendo.net
Not sure if those make a difference.
That seems to have made the difference, I'm now blocking those two plus sun and beach, and it's let me into the eshop.

My previous temporary unblocking of beach did let me get into the eshop and download some demos, but it also left me with an update nag (now removed), so I wouldn't suggest doing that :)

I can give you a list of addresses to block, but it's up to you to figure out how to do that (there's guides on here tho), because my method is a bit obscure, using dnsmasq on my raspberry pi.

Addresses to block:

sun.hac.lp1.d4c.nintendo.net
beach.hac.lp1.eshop.nintendo.net
receive-lp1.dg.srv.nintendo.net
receive-lp1.er.srv.nintendo.net

Good luck :)

I have sun, beach and atumn blocked and I don't get any update nags and I'm still able to get into the eShop, however it seems like the grace period is soon ending. I wouldn't recommend attempting to buy anything else in the eShop as people are already reporting the inability to download anything. I was able to activate Kirby on 1.1.0, but I'm now unable to download the 1.1.1 update (at least the game runs fine apparently on 1.1.0).

Yeah looks like the same here, same servers blocked as yesterday but now it won't let me download another demo because the system version is out of date. Was good while it lasted, at least I got to update Mario and grab a few demos to play with.

It's actually pretty devious, letting people browse and purchase in the eShop but not download without system update. Most people will probably be like, "Well I better update so I don't feel like I just wasted money on that purchase!" Crafty Nintendo as always...
