Switch SD card reader will not click back down.

HI All,

I did all the hard work and seem to have been stopped at what should be easy. I have not yet used excessive force. But this should go back down. I see a little deformation on the top right of the board connector but. I have been gently with it.

I removed the blacked foam tab and no matter how hard I can not get this thing to sit down. Has anyone any help / insight into this. This might be more suited to the AIO or picofly thread. Mod can move as they see fit

Your connectors housings are compromised, the outer parts are what "clicks" in to secure the male/female parts. This image is just an example, yes it's compromised but you can make due with it had it not been for the damaged pins. You're going to have to replace the connectors on both mobos.

The deformation on your port is definitely going to be a problem. That being said, since the port needs to be replaced, if it breaks from a bit more force, you wont really be much worse off than you are now. Just don't press so hard that you risk damaging the board. If you get it to seat without cracking it, you may get a few months out of it before you have to replace the connector entirely.

im trying to determine if i have a sd card issue as well as a port issue. I saw some videos that show that even a well seated sd card fpc will rock a bit. The pin that is now damaged is one of the common grounds. BUt I can not get hekate to boot the payload.bin. Is my only test at this point to remove the mod and boot the with the emmc and then test the sd side.

I have the tools to do a wire link but, locally shops want 100 euro to do the fpc + game card. I may not have much option as the parts on ali will not arrive on time

Even if i can get it back to stock with no sd card it will buy me time . I'm furious that I did the hard part and failed on the easy part. And I was gentle - I did not remove the black rubber thing which may have accounted for misalignment

You should be able to remove the mod and boot stock assuming nothing else is broken. You dont have to remove the apu ribbon if you used one. It will mind its own business as long as it isnt connected to a chip. Just put some tape over the contacts so they dont contact the heat pipe.

oh boy, my previous sd card reader looks completely fine and even almost works like it took me months to discover that is indeed foulty so I guess you should get it replaced by some pro straight away.

Just for the sake of testing purposes I found this pinout for you, I'm not sure if there's differences in V1/V2... I'm certain it isn't the OLED as this article was last edited at the end of January '22

i did try and bell them out and i had a lot of shorts to gnd, I cant figure out how its happening so I have brought it to a shop as i cant wait for ali express parts. They seem to charge 110 euro to fix sd reader issues. here ( think that is steep but i am handcuffed. I wish I could wait and do it myself. I would hard wire it to the test points but then no shop would work on it after that.

I tried to hard wire the SD card, as I have experience with soldering. Well these pads are not great for solder. I ended up tearing Dat0 (had 5 of 7 done) and so abandoned the attempt. From what I can find out so far there is an alternative dat0 on the back side which I will have to link around to the FPC connector once it arrives. Cant believe most repair shops are so negative about these kind of repairs. most say we cant do it

I would suggest stopping before this gets to a state of irreparable damage. Your journaling hasn't included much pictures but by the sound of it, you're on your way to a dead handheld. Bite the bullet, and pay someone who can and is willing to repair the damaged section(s).

Sorry, I just thought I would reply to discourage someone who might think this is not that difficult. I have stopped, my only issue is no shops locally will look at this. One booked it in (when it was just the fpc) and said oh this is modded, we could not work on this console. I agree this is a rabbit hole so I stopped while it was salvageable

I am hopefully Cod3r will reply to an email I sent but I dont know what vat export and courier charges may cost.

I have ordered the parts from china 5 fpc and 2 sd cards so i Can use hot air from underside (if I cant find anyone to do this)

Looking at the torn trace I am unlucky as this appears to the one of the hardest to reattach. I will have to try to go to the pin of the FPC as the trace is under the connector
