Why would it affect the battery that bad?

Every time you charge or drain the battery it generates heat. The more amps you put in or take out, the hotter it gets. Too much heat and it will prematurely age the battery and it will start generating gas.

This is not about getting GPU OC or docked clocks (in the first iteration)
This is only about OC'ing the CPU for now.

Framebuffer emulation. I have hard-disabled it because performance reasons. This is not a bug, this is for performance reasons.
In the Upstream builds its a core option still.
Is it activated through a kip or a homebrew?

The switch GPU is underclocked anyway, so going back to stock speed shouldn't be dangerous, just a little more battery intensive.

So the switch is this weak that it can't even run n64 and psp without overclock huh
Pathetic. I had high hopes on this console but now i know its just a common android tablet...

Neither.
It's a IPS Patch to a system title (ppc, https://switchbrew.org/wiki/PPC_services)
Homebrew currently can't chose anything (that's planned for later) and it just OC's CPU in all configurations.
I will probably create a kip to make it easier for me to get it across all versions, also for homebrew integration.
It's not even a day old and I wont have much time today and writing more complicated patches just takes time.
I also want to reverse more of PPC and expand the wiki.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

With more development time and optimization, overclocking will be unnecessary imho.
We need the dynarec for getting rid of the OC-need

I was just curious. I know it's brand new, anyway nicely done!

Hehe, well it will be intresting to see how people feel it acts both docked and undocked.

Horizon itself is way more fluent already.

Is it going to potentially cause battery damage?
The smaller OC barely affects battery drain, so probably not.
We are doing heavy testing currently, also I will write proper benchmarks and temp monitoring tools

So the battery bulging earlier in the thread with lakka isn't relevant?
The exact causes are still unknown (but it very well could be due to OC)
Also Lakka has GPU OC in addition to the stock tegra clock OC at 1.9Ghz which is waaay more intense.
But given he is the only one that we know of, it very well can just be a fluke.
Stuff like that can potentially happen under normal use too.

Bulging batteries are often reasons of the battery going bad. It's a protection measure... but for them to be this hot for the battery to bulge, your plastic most likely would start to be melted....
