no, not with a text editor.
you need to edit it with an hex editor like HxD

edit: i have misread your post, sorry.

you have to store the title id in that file in little endian mode.

i'll quote myself:

another tip,
when patching main.npdm and you don't want to read the NPDM wiki (on switchbrew), you could just search your title id in little endian mode (reversed bytes).

so, for instance, if you have this title id 0100000000010000
search in your hex editor for 0000010000000001 and patch properly following the same format

Save works. Isaac use the save file of SMO. After a rebbot i can resume my game on Isaac.
