Switch 2 hacking question

I have a switch 2 on 20.4.0 right now that I bought day one. is it worth keeping it on this firmware for future JB or should I just keep it on latest? I sold my hacked Switch 1 day one to buy a switch oled back in 2022 and i kinda regret that bc it was fun modding the switch 1 but idk if the switch 2 is even gonna get hacked anyway i wanna hear what u guys have to say abt it, thanks guys!

Not updating means no online play, no future game releases, and no game updates. You're giving up a lot of things in exchange for *maybe* hacks in the future. Keep in mind that several Switch 1 hackers believe the kernel to be completely 100% free of vulnerabilities, so it is unlikely that there will be software mods anytime soon.

The best scenario would be to keep your console to its lowest firmware.
But the best of the best scenario would be to have a console with each firmware being released. Some exploits can be found on alter firmware but not on earliest ones. This scenario is less likely to happen, but not to be excluded.
Still, having a console with the Day 1 patch, or even better, with the 1.0.0 firmware, is always the best bet you can make if you want to use CFW.

The best scenario would be to keep your console updated, since there are not going to be any exploits in the lifetime of your handheld. The clowns who will tell you otherwise do not understand what is involved and why it is different this time versus the original Switch. Missing out of the complete Switch 2 experience waiting for Godot to hack it is peak sadgamerboy™ behavior.

You only have "one" Switch2. So you need to just update it and play it. Right now you are turning it into a paperweight, Keeping a new non hackable console on a low FW is not ideal unless you have another to play on. Eventually you'll give in the temptations to play new games that will be S2 exclusive.

If you have two Switch 2s then keep one on the lowest firmware you can and play the other. If you only have one then it depends whether you're willing to risk losing the option to hack it in the future in exchange for being able to play it now. As mentioned above, this risk is very low but there is always some risk that Nintendo finds and patches out a security flaw everyone has missed in a future update.

Sounds like somebody salty about switch modding in general. They said nintendo will brick your original switch when modding it. To this day, none of my modded switches are bricked and 2 of them are updated. Why are you on GBAtempt if you think we are all clowns? This place is where people talk about console hacking in general and I never understood why people like you are always here disliking any form of console hack. I believe switch 2 will be modded soon

Switch 2 is definitely an upgrade, but man, the NS2 screen is inferior to NS1's OLED.

While I do agree OP should just update their Switch 2, this is kind of a wacky statement. Every time someone says this early in the life of a console, they're proven wrong a few years (sometimes even months) later. They said this about the 3DS, hell, said this about the PS3 too.

if it really is 100% secure, you shouldn't even bother to ask the question. It's either 100% secure and you will never be able to do anything about it, or it's 99% secure and "only time will tell"

The difference is the Switch 2 isn’t an entirely new console. It’s re-using most of the same software, including the kernel, from Switch 1. It’s been nearly nine years since it first released and there’s been almost no software exploits.

For the specific claim of “100% vulnerability-free”, you can look towards Atmosphère’s maintainer:

I invite everyone actually competent to do research, please, more fresh eyes are always welcome. That said, the kernel has been thoroughly audited by myself, hexkyz, plutoo, and at least five others who I've sent my fully labeled IDB (reverse engineering database) to, and none of us have found anything at all. It's very small (~600 functions, takes about eight hours to fully review), and the odds seem overwhelmingly likely that nothing will ever be found.

I sent Comex all of my reversing data in the hopes he finds it useful; if he finds a kernel bug, I would be thrilled. It is not impossible that I (and many others) have all missed something that he as another talented dev might find. But, I do think people should temper their expectations and mostly expect it to not happen.

just note that the atmosphere devs are also not “100% perfect matrix hacker dev”. Some feature like playing your switch game on external hdd is still exclusive to SXOS, they’re also not the one who made MIG Switch in the first place. All that credit goes to team xecuter.

You're right, xecuter devs did stuff that atmosphere devs didn't want to do.

Not sure what this proves tho.
