I believe that product also works on PS1 systems (just as devices like the action replay did), and that would be a much safer use of it. "
I'm not much of a technical expert but is this really the case? Honestly most of the games I want to play are for psone, not ps2. So if breaker pro wouldn't cause damage or stress to the psone in terms of the motor I might just buy a used psone and a breaker pro. Are there any psone versions that breaker pro doesn't work with?
Slide tools are for PS2 Fat version of swapping disc. I do not see too much harm in using them on PS2 Fat if one is careful, and patient. PS2 slim just uses sensors switches. For PS1 there is a swap trick to play backups too although it is more complicated of a swap and is bad for the motors, Breaker Pro works on all PS1 as long as you get the right disc for your console region.
Breaker Pro should not lessen the life of the motor and what not on either PS1 or PS2. All burned disc do lessen the life of the lasers, along with scratch/dirty disc. PS2 slim lasers can be had for around $10 each if they need replacing.
