As everybody may know, up to this point, there has been made an announcement at the GDC of this year, in which the president of Nintendo, Mr. Satoru Iwata, announced finally, that the development team of Super Mario Galaxy 2 have been working on a new title that, said by Mr. Miyamoto, is finally the Super Mario game on 3D. I am refering to Super Mario 3DS.
This is the biggest announcement ever since the day when Nintendo people showed us pictures of Kid Icarus: Uprising. This game is going to be one of the best games ever. Sadly, Iwata only showed us PICTURES and no In-game videos, or something like it, a little look, a sneak peak, no. Only this:
Well, since we have them, let's speculate!!
1. The logo.
Seems to me like a "Super Mario 64-ish logo" based heavilly on the Galaxy 2 logo design. What we have here that is different is, indeed, what it looks like a Racoon Suit tail or a Tanooki Suit tail... Don't know, but Iwata said that the meaning of it will be revealed at the E3.
2. Mario in a new world.
This image resembles strongly to a Galaxy 2 screenshot. Without the HUD, obviously. But I see something more... On the background, I can note some Brick Blocks and some ? Blocks standing in a road with those twinkling coins. Maybe, this game will bring them back in a way, but, how...?
3. Elevating Mario.
Looks familiar to any of you? Well, we have the ? Blocks and the coins once again. But we have even more. Moving platforms like those of Smash Bros. or Super Mario Bros. 3 and moving blocks, like the ones that you can find in the before said game. And, check that out: DONUT LIFTS!!! These folks were recently seen in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, but their last appearance in a 3D Mario game was in 1996, in Super Mario 64. We will see them once again in this game.
4. Chasing the helpless.
Let's see... We have once again the brick blocks and the ? Blocks, a Goomba, but what can I see... It is a standard Mario! (Remember that he is Super Mario once he gets a Super Mushroom) Hat-less?! And the Goomba is chasing after him... Would this mean... the appearance of Super Mushrooms in this game? Oh, wait, I see something more! That block organization... I've seen it before... Right! In Super Mario Bros. saga, usually first levels always have this block alignment and there's only one that provides us with a Power-up! This game gets better and better!
Final pic: The Spinning Block Platform level.
Don't I know them from somewhere? Ah, yes, I've seen' em in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, on the acrobatic levels, like an obstacle. It seems that they reappear here as well as the other Goomba family members. See? We can see two Paragoombas ready to bring us down. Wa-wa-wa-wa-wait a second!!! Is THAT... A Comet Medal?!?! What the heck is it doing here?! Does it mean, that we will have special challenges on certain levels...?
RESUMING: Seems to me that Shigeru Miyamoto has finally founded a way to make a Super Mario Bros. game using 3D environment and classic elements. It looks to me like a 3D version of a Super Mario Bros. game, featuring finally a complete gameplay experience, using elements that are exclusive to the 3D series, as well as those that have appeared only on the side-scrolling games.
Well, those are my speculations.
Now, time to hear yours! Please comment!
