Symnatec has reported today that it has found a malware that seems to be based off the notorious stuxnet malware. Stuxnet is infamous because targeted several industrial computers including Iranian power plants. It is not clear if Duqu is made by the same people responsible for stuxnet, or if it was made by another party that has access to its source code.
Duqu derives it's name from the files it creates as they all have the prefix ~DQ. Duqu operates slightly differently than it's predecessor stuxnet. Duqu is a trojan horse that can provide remote access to the target computer, register keystrokes and also opens up a backdoor that can install other programs. Its primary goal is to gather as much information on the system it is on to prepare for a future attack on similar systems. Thus far, two varieties have been found.
