Hacking Stupid question

So i have a psp 2000 with ofw 5.55. From what i can understand from the softmod guide i DONT need a pandora battery?

I just upgrade to ofw 6.20 and follow the softmod guides instructions right?

Sorry if i'm sounding stupid its just that when I had a PSP a few years back i had to use a pandora battery and mms and all that. This new method seems so...simple
