Hacking Stream media too Wii from Network Hdd?

Hey, Is it possible to stream media from a Hdd that is connected to the network to the wii?
I know how it works if i example have vlc running on my pc etc, but i just wanted to know if it was possible without a pc?

Example just browse a network drive and play from there?

wiimc allows you to stream media from pc to wii.
you just have to configure the share in the settings menu.

is the the homebrew games and applications section of this forum.

I have an external hard drive connected to my router running Samba which also works beautifully for media streaming

yes its possible
mplayerce supports at least smb and ftp
the other players should support that too
don't know about other protocols
