So, my car was broken into and my 3ds and a bunch of games were stolen. It's the 3ds I had all my stuff on, including my NNID.

I plan on transferring my NNID to a new console, but I was curious if Nintendo could give me the serial number of the stolen console given its linked status so I can give that to the cops. Anyone have any idea if they have that sort of information? And where I'd call to find out?

I realize my chances of getting my old 3dsxl back are next to nothing, but having the serial number would help a lot if they try and pawn it.

You could send a customer support message to Nintendo about it. If you have your login details it shouldn't be a problem. They could probably even shut it down and deny them access to your NNID.
Just make sure you don't have any haxes or Nintendo will not be happy.

Yeah just call nintendo and explain the situation. They will get it switched over to another 3ds. Just like the above poster said they will also ban the stolen 3ds from online play

Ya'll are awesome. I do have some hacks, though I never went online with them (gateway).

I called them at 1-800-255-3700 (option 3, then 3), gave them my NNID, and they were able to give me the serial number. I added it to the police report, and am going to buy a new 3dsxl and be able to transfer everything over.

They did say they can't hold any account transactions on their end, but since you have to log in with passwords and junk to purchase or transfer anything, I should be good. It's just sad and expensive; they were both 9.2 consoles.

Did you manage to get it locked down so they can't do anything with it?
And did they let you relink the NNID to your new console?

I'm purchasing the new console tonight. They said they cannot lock it down, though. The dude said that it'll be locked out if the password is typed in wrong 3 times. I asked him twice if there was any way for them to lock out the NNID or remove credit card information and he said no both times. He said it would be locked out of the old console after the transfer.

Ah okay. As long as you've got a secure password you should be good. (I have mine set to remember password Eeeeep)
Cool, sounds good :P

Call back right now and tell him to remove your card. A thief can potentially make charges on your card.

Everything has already been put on my new 3ds, so it's already off the stolen console(s). I was curious why he said that nothing could be done until it was transferred over.

@SylverReZ find me ONE community that is free of drama and politics. even video games forums (like this one) have politics section. and for some reason gamers still take consoles/brands wars seriously. even as a kid i never took the console wars bait despite being a nintendo kid.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
one of the reasons i deleted all my social media accounts, reddit account (although i was rarely using it) etc was to get away from this shit.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Vetusomaru, Sadly, not all communities like to play nice. Forums are pretty much dying despite Discord amongst other social media being available.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
i only kept my twitter accounts and only because many of the artists i like share their art only/mostly at twitter.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
lots of discord groups (even the big ones) are also dead for some reason.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Twitter is way too shittier.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
that's why i added some firefox addons to block shit like twitter trends.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Discord, on the other hand, moderation tends to not be very nice in video game communities from what I had experienced.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
nah, discord is also a shithole. discord is good only if you have your own community with your own rules. or if you re lucky to find some groups that arent shitholes.
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
as about forums, when i recently revisited some old forums i used to be regular and seeing how immature most members still are i was like "Yeap. Nothing of value has been lost.". Unfortunately it's the good, comfy forums that ended up dead or shut down, especially because of internet centralization.
