Steam forums down after suspected hacker attack

Anyone trying to access Valves steam forums at the moment will be greeted with a down for maintenance notification. However the suspected real reason behind the downtime is due to the fact that they were hacked earlier today. For a brief time anyone trying to access steams forum was met with a banner by the hackers responsible, a group called Fkn0wned, with a link to their site.

Steam members have also reported their email inboxes being spammed by the same group also, in what is a worrying breach of security. So if your steam forum login details are the same as your steam account username and password it would be wise to change them, just to be on the safe side.

steam forums helped me recover my save data after an update FUBAR'd it.

many stickies in some of the older games i own show you how to get the game running again in modern OS's.

the VAST majority of topics there are a waste of space to be sure, but the forums are not useless, and i've had a few good conversations there. not too different from here.

Well, this wasn't all that bad for me. Since I couldn't access the Portal 2 wallpaper thread, I had to resort to looking for a wallpaper elsewhere.

Well, you can blame vBulletin as that was the forum software used. I'm sure they have a backup, anyways.

your steam account is separate from the fourm's, you only have a fourm account if you registered. People who had an email sent probably made their email public with there account so they probably nabbed the email's and sent a batch email to all of them.
@serafim I doubt it, hackers usually don't sit on holes in security unless they want to be covert, these guys hacked a steam related service so they would noticed by a shit ton of people.

@BloodyFlame probably a coincidence though it could also be fake could you post the address the email was sent from and I can compare and see if it's legit
