Hey everyone, just started modding my 2DS and on the 3DS hacking site it says to turn off friend notification settings to not receive a ban. Does this also mean I should turn off the option to allow friends to see my online status and would this affect me and my friends playing online together? Also, I have set everything up to this point (right before seedminer) using the SD card that was in the console. I have already played some Mario Kart 7 and face raiders and I think it saved to the SD card. Is it safe to remove the card and put the new one in? Should I just transfer all the files from one to the other? Thanks in advance.

As said above, at this point in time in the year 2020, you are unlikely to be banned on the 3DS unless you cheat online.

That being said, there was once, years ago, a CFW banwave that likely worked in part by detecting illegitimate homebrew applications like FBI and freeShop. Although it's very unlikely to happen again, you can do the following to reduce the risk of this ban:
  1. Don't install homebrew applications on the home menu. That includes the homebrew launcher. Use Rosalina for all of your homebrew applications.
  2. Turn off the SpotPass “Sending of System Information” setting
  3. Turn off the “Show friends what you’re playing” setting
You are correct that the third item will negatively affect how you interact with friends online. If you're doing #1 and #2, you probably don't need to do #3. And, like I said before, this kind of ban is unlikely in 2020 and beyond.

Edit: Also, if you are going to use a different SD card, you should transfer the files/folders from the old SD card to the new one.

It might not even be necessary to use homebrew through Rosalina.

A user did packet sniffing and found that, if you had Spotpass data sharing and the Friends thing turned off, you wouldn't send anything incriminating to Nintendo.
However, this was back in 2017. It's possible that Nintendo decided to change this in a firmware update, so you should use Rosalina if you're worried.

It might not be necessary, but it is recommended.
