A court has approved Japanese publisher Square Enix’s takeover of British publisher Eidos, which is expected to become effective tomorrow morning.

The move will bring the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Hitman franchises under the same roof as the likes of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, and give the Japanese publisher a stronger foothold in the western market.

On February 12 the two parties announced that they had reached agreement on the terms of the acquisition, and in late March Eidos shareholders overwhelmingly approved the takeover, with over 85 percent of shareholders representing 99.93 percent of Eidos shares voting for the resolution.

Source and source.

Cool move. I heard the last Tomb Raider sucked. The two companies have worked together in the past, including the PC FFVII port.

It was inevitable, now we'll be seeing Lara Croft in the next Dissidia

Yeah, that's about what I was thinking. Or possibly Lara will now have that stupid looking anime look to her from now on.

Will it make a great deal of difference? I mean Eidos were just a publisher - they didn't develop any games.

The changes will probably be no more than a different logo in the bottom right of the boxart.

oh... I wonder what company will take next???
Squaresoft + Enix = Square Enix.... Square Enix + Eidos= Square Eidos Enix? or S.E.E?

Also I wonder what will be the first game they will make all together now

Well, interesting, but Square Enix are taking on so many games and companies right now they're in danger of becoming extremely difficult to manage effectively.
And what's happening with Deus Ex 3 now?
As for Hitman, it would be great to get a new game

Long as IO Interactive keeps making Hitman the way they want to it's cool.

And last Tomb Raider was awesome, all of them have been since the reboot.
