Something I thought about that nobody's mentioned online- as is stated everywhere, the Hori Split Pad Pro cannot be used outside of handheld mode, as it lacks any wireless tech, or a battery. However, as far as I can tell, nobody has tried using it with the Charging Joy-Con grip. I've seen that the non-charging Joy Con grips can be disassembled to cleanly remove the actual grips, leaving only the center bar the Joy Cons attach to. That would take care of the SPP not having a battery, but then, I'm not sure if the Charging Grips push controller inputs through USB, or just use the Joy Cons' built-in wireless, as I don't yet have Charging Grips to test it with. Does anyone here know?
(It should be easy to test, just put the Switch into Airplane Mode, then plug in the Charging Grips to the Switch, and see if the JoyCons still connect to the console.)
