Speeding up Torrents?

I'm not sure how to check if they are from a private or public tracker, and I can't tell you guys the site for obvious reasons. But it's a popular site, probably the most used if not 2nd to most used site for torrents.

I host the router
My mom picks up the signal from time to time, when she goes on. Which isnt much.

Cable or DSL? DSL modems generally have a dhcp server built in. Which might give you double-NAT problems and such, and in that case, you might have to port forward twice, from the modem to the router, and from the router to your computer.

the internet going to a crawl is mainly due to the fact that you're straining too much of an upload speed on your internet connection. you can have as many connections open in your torrent client as you like, but the download speed will be shared throughout them. as will your upload speed.

personally i use utorrent. it's the quickest and most reliable client out there atm. i have an 8meg sky connection, which is 712kb/s download speed. i average at about 300kb/s on torrents with my upload speed capped at 25kb/s.

You generally have to be invited to private trackers, like blackcats.



What happened to flood control?

It only works if two posts are made within 30 seconds of each other. In this case the time difference is nearly 2 minutes so imagine how dumb a flood control for that time period would be.
